RAMSEY: JANUARY_2010_MIX
There is so much music out there…so many dj’s and their mixes. Slammed together. Jumbled, cut, pasted, plastered. All via’ing for your attention. In this instant on world that we live in, is there time to make time for something that requires more than a 30 sec sound bite? With this mix, there is. A beautiful mix that rewards the astute listener. One who has patience, who MAKES time to listen. How easy is it now to just have the music going on in the background, well do you want to bring it to the foreground and really start listening to it? Are you willing to make a sacrifice in your precious time to listen to it? I would venture to say that if you are one of those who does for this mix, there are rewards to be reaped from this mix. Yes, it is that good. Not that it is not some amazing technical mix…but it is flawless in it’s execution of crescendo and descent. Starting off slow and kind of soft spoken, the mix builds and builds. Just when you thought this mix was going to be a harder mix up of atmospheric DnB, Ramsey drops in with the rough and raucous grind up bass that put your bass needs to rest. This mix delivers in that. But it also brings an appreciation to those who continue to listen multiple times. Because you begin to see that the songs are not just put next to one another. No, they are layered. And again, they are not just layered. They are introduced to one another. It’s like, hello neighbor, how are you? Can we dance? Or hey lover, let me whisper into your ear…and its in these conversations that transitions happen between the songs. Yeah you HEAR the transitions, but they F L O W. Ramsey helps you see how they are likened to be MEANT for one another. Now take a further step back. Look at the mix as a whole. Starts of soft, grows builds, becomes shouting screaming rolling bass monster, that ultimately, but gradually comes back down to the same level that it starts out at. That is craft. That is precision and knowledge of “tracks” and artists, music at it’s best. This is the job of the DJ. Craft a story utilizing the strengths and sonics of each track to compellingly tell the story as a whole. Yes yes, there is a story here. The words are your own, but the emotive sonic sounds are there. Put there by the DJ. Introduced to you by the DJ. These emotive sonics swirl around in your brain, come out tapping in your foot and all of a sudden, the story is there in your head. And what ever that story is, it is YOURS. Take it, enjoy it and thank the DJ on the way out.
